Federal Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Exam

National Registry of certified medical examiners logoIn April of 2012, the United States Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) established a new rule in the National Registry, that all medical examiners who conduct physical examinations for commercial motor vehicle drivers must meet the following standards:

  • Maintain a valid state license to conduct medical examinations
  • Complete the required training on FMCSA’s physical qualifications
  • Pass the federal FMCSA Medical Examiner Certification Test to demonstrate knowledge of FMCSA’s physical qualification standards
  • Complete refresher training every 5 years and recertification every 10 years

As of May 21, 2014, all medical certificates must be issued from medical examiners listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME).

All of Public Safety Medical’s medical examiners have received this certification.  To view the national registry, click here.
